Golden Beans

What is the Golden Beans coffee varietal?

The Golden Bean coffee varietal is a unique type of coffee bean that is found in Yemen and Ethiopia dry-process coffees, and sometimes in other origins. It is characterized by its pale yellow and slightly translucent appearance. While it is not an outright defect, it is caused by iron deficiency in the plant, and/or high soil PH.
The Golden Bean is sometimes separated and sold at a premium, with the false belief that they have better cup quality. However, this is not necessarily true. The Golden Bean is not necessarily indicative of higher quality coffee, as it is not necessarily related to the flavor or aroma of the coffee.
