Catuai

What is the Catuai coffee varietal?

Catuai is a high-yield Arabica cultivar that was developed by the Instituto Agronomico do Campinas in Brazil in the 1950s and 1960s. It is a hybrid of Mundo Novo and Caturra, and is widely used in Brazil and Central America. Catuai is a short tree with lateral branches that form close angles to the primary branches. It is robust and can tolerate areas with strong winds or rain, but requires fertilization and care.
There are two types of Catuai: yellow-fruited and red-fruited. In 2000, a new type called Ouro Verde was released with more vigor than Red Catuai. Catucai is a cross between Catuai and Icatu, and can be both yellow and red. It is well-known for its high productivity and yields.
Catuai is a popular variety for its high yields and resistance to disease. It is also known for its good cup quality, with a balanced body and acidity. It is often used as a base for blends, and is also used for single origin coffees. It is a versatile variety that can be grown in a variety of climates and soils.
