What is the Ateng coffee varietal?

Ateng is a type of coffee varietal that is widely planted in Sumatra and other Indonesian isles. It is a cross between Arabica and Robusta, and is commonly referred to as Catimor. The name Ateng is derived from the area Aceh Tenggah in Sumatra.
Ateng has several sub-types, one of which is Ateng Jaluk. This type of Catimor has a reputation for poor flavor, however, there are numerous types of Catimor and in some conditions they can do well in the cup.
Catimor is a hybrid of Arabica and Robusta, and is known for its high yield and resistance to disease. It is a relatively new variety, having been developed in the late 1950s. It is a cross between the Timor Hybrid and Caturra varieties.
